I Caught Santa in My Back Yard!

I just had a great time creating a cool I Caught Santa.com picture for my husband. Won't he be suprised.... no, I take that back ... he'll be shocked that Santa is checking out his ride! Who knew Santa liked lawn tractors????

This is a really fun program. It's a great product if you need a gift for someone who has everything, if you have children (you can show Santa in your house), and/or if you need a gift for someone you don't know too well, but need to give a gift; and perfect for the office. Very versatile.

It's Super duper easy. Take a digital picture of your Christmas tree, a room in the house (or like me) something in the yard ... it's up to you. Horizontal, high-resolution pictures work best. Save your background photo to your computer; it will be uploaded to the ICaughtSanta.com site.

Another cool thing to come out of Bawlmore is the famous "Baltimore Bomb Pie" featured on the Food Networks" "The Best Thing I Ever Ate." Also favored by Charm City Cakes Duff Goldman, the pie has become somewhat famous. You can buy it online at Dangerously Delicious Pies, or try to make one yourself. In searching for a recipe, I came across to great sites that come very close to mimicking it. Check out My Man's Belly and Chris and Ashton's Blog. below is the recipe from My Man's Belly.

PS -- Don't forget to wear your favorite apron!

Use your own favorite Pie Crust recipe, or if you hate rolling out pastry (like me) ... Just go buy one of those Pet Ritz froze pie shells : ) What's important here is the filling : )

Filling:

1 Large Egg

4 Large Egg Yolks

2/3 Cup Granulated Sugar

2/3 Cup Light Brown Sugar (firmly packed)

1/2 Teaspoon Salt (not Kosher salt)

2 Tablespoons Cider Vinegar

2/3 Cup Heavy Whipping Cream

6 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter (cut into small pieces)

1/2 Package of Berger's Cookies (They are very rich) and another great product from Baltimore (you can buy those on line as well)

Directions:

Bake your pie crust for 10 minutes (like any other pie)

For Pie Filling

Preheat oven to 275 degrees Farenheit. (yes, 275 degrees Farenheit)

Whisk, in a heatproof bowl, the first six ingredients until no yellow streaks remain.

Whisk in heavy cream.

Scatter in the pieces of butter.

Bring 1 inch of water to a simmer in a medium size saucepan.

Place heatproof bowl, containing the filling ingredients, over the simmering water (the water should not touch the bottom of the bowl). Gently whisk until filling is warm to the touch. (butter will probably not be completely melted)

Add in chopped Berger Cookies and whisk gently to combine.

Pour filling into pie crust.

Bake for 6o minutes.

When it is time to remove the pie, you will see that it still jiggles a bit in the center…that’s okay, it should do that.

Let cool. Eat!

Fisher Stevens New Documentary on Dolphins - The Cove

Just watched the trailer for "The Cove"; a new documentary by actor, director and producer, Fisher Stevens. He produced "The Cove," an Oscar-nominated film that won the best documentary award from the National Board of Review in 2009. It's timely, with the recent horrific tragedy that occurred last week at SeaWorld in Orlando, Floridawhere Dawn Brancheau lost her life doing the job that she loved.

"The Cove" is a wide eyed view on the dolphin trade and slaughter. Fisher said, " I assumed like many others that dolphins and orcas enjoyed living at Sea World and other marine parks. They always seemed to be smiling, jumping merrily around their tanks, eager to put on a show for human spectators. However, when I met Ric O'Barry, my perspective changed. O'Barry was the man responsible for capturing Kathy -- the original "Flipper" -- from the wild and helping to create the language used to train dolphins to do tricks and flips. When Cathy died in his arms some years later, O'Barry realized the whole process of capturing and training dolphins was wrong."

O' Barry co-wrote the book "Behind the Dolphin Smile: A True Story that Will Touch the Hearts of Animal Lovers Everywhere" where he explains that the smiles you see on dolphins are not the reflection of happiness. In actuality, they hate to be enclosed in their holding tanks and are often not fed until it is time to perform their daily routines. During his time as a trainer, O'Barry learned dolphins had true feelings -- they would get depressed, stressed out, even suicidal. In some parks, the trainers have to give the animals Maalox and Tagamet. Read an excerpt here.

O'Barry realized that the dolphins, whom he made perform tricks for treats, had just as much right to their lives as he did to his. Instead of feeling clever, he felt that he’d been callous. From that moment on, O’Barry dedicated his life to freeing dolphins that are held hostage around the world. Instead of working for the billion-dollar dolphin captivity industry, he now liberates exploited dolphins – he “un-trains” these intelligent marine mammals and returns them to their natural habitat.

The Cove is also going to take you to Japan where they capture, slaughter and trade dolphins.

In a previous post I predicted we were probably going to see Carrera popping up, or rather popping on a few of our favorite artists; and here I am, again, proving my point. A certain sex symbol that has been thrusting his abs at us since 1994 has decided join the table, along with Alicia Keys and Lady Gaga... as a fashion icon Carrera.

Welcome Usher, we have been waiting.

Usher doesn't exactly need help with looking as fine as he does but these glasses certainly aren't hurting.

We haven't seen a lot of Usher around lately. He seems to be just doing his thing, but don't worry, his new album, “Raymond Vs. Raymond”, will be available on-line and in the best CD stores by March.

Mention worthy would be his new song “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)”, directed by Chris Robinson. The video shows the artist trying to preserve his private life and give his faithful girlfriend all the attention she needs.

As mentioned in my last post about singer Alicia Keys, Carrera is a popular eyeglass brand seems to be popping up in all sorts of videos.

Either all of their stylists hang out together or these stars actually have some fashion sense.
So who is our second star wearing Carrera? That would be Lady Gaga. Rah, Rah!

Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys might not have too much in common but they share a love for the "CARRERA VINTAGE” collection.

I enjoyed the Jay-Z and Alicia Keys song as much as the next person but I must admit, I'm glad to see Keys putting out a new song for herself.

Which leads me to her new song and video "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart".

The girl really can't do any wrong in my eyes.

I mean come on,

1.) She is absolutely gorgeous

2.) She has an amazing voice

3.) She has incredible fashion sense.

According to an article at CelebDen.com; ex-Baywatch girl Pamela Anderson has revealed that she still has her famous red Baywatch swimsuit and often wears it to entertain her boyfriends. I lost my wedding ring 2 weeks ago. Thankfully, it was insured. So the question was; what to replace it with. I decided to try ordering off the internet because I didn't want to deal with going to the mall and the salespeople. I have to say, I was more than happy and surpised at how
nice, how easy and how great this experience. was. I checked out quite a few of the sites and actually found a ring (or two) that I kept going back to. I decided to buy one I loved. First things first, you can get a ring sizer from pretty much all of the stores on line and have it mailed to you, or do what I did (because I was anxious to get a new ring), go to a store and get your finger sized.

I ordered my ring which was on sale with the below 20% off coupon which substantially lowered the price. The ring I purchased was nicer than the one I lost and I was able to get more carats with the discount.

Better yet, the ring came Fedex (I opted for the free shipping, but they gave me 3 - 5 day upgrade), it was in a box within a box with a big blue bow. And, it came with all the authenticity papers to send to the insurance company. Plus, you have a 30 day return policy. I have to tell you, I was so very happy with this experience and my ring, that I promptly went back and bought a "knock around" ring that I also saw that I liked.

Had to give this company kudo's as it was a great experience and I like to pass out good recommendations when I'm sure. And, I'm sure about this store. You may want to check them out : )

Charlize won the coveted little gold guy, plus accolades for her head to toe glamour look on Oscar night. This Hollywood hair look emphasized soft, flattering curls.

Step 1: On towel-dried hair, apply the correct styling product for your hair type from hair roots to ends.

Step 2: Pre-dry hair with a blow dryer.

Step 3: Set up hair with desired part. Dividing hair into 1-inch sections, work a curling iron through, section by section. Starting from close to the scalp, spiral hair unto the iron's barrel, hold briefly, then release. Work through hair until complete.

Step 4: After allowing hair to cool, test curl - if curl has not taken, take the curl and pin it up to the scalp with a pin, rolling as you go. If curl is firm, separate with fingers and finger comb to desired look.

Step 5: Take hair accessory and pin back hair on one side back, away from the face.

It must be official... I read it in the Post! Hula hoops once the playthings of children, are making a comeback in the adult fitness arena!

New, larger hoops are now made just for adults; their added weight and circumference makes it easier to keep the hoop spinning around the body. This means that even if you think you won't be able to hoop, chances are good that you'll catch on quickly. This is one of the coolest books I have seen so far. I don't have any young children so I did not buy it, but I did stand in the book aisle at Borders and read both the boys and girls version for myself. It's great. Reminded me of being in the girl scouts, playing in the back yard, having friends over, the whole thing. So, if you know anyone with young girls, this is a really, really cool gift. I can't even stress how cool this book is!

We asked Conn about their collaboration.

Amazon.com: It's difficult to describe what a phenomenon The Dangerous Book for Boys was in the UK last year. When I would check the bestseller list on our sister site, Amazon.co.uk, there would be, along with your book, which spent much of the year at the top of the list, a half-dozen apparent knockoff books of similar boy knowledge. Clearly, you tapped into something big. What do you think it was?

Iggulden:
In a word, fathers. I am one myself and I think we've become aware that the whole "health and safety" overprotective culture isn't doing our sons any favors. Boys need to learn about risk. They need to fall off things occasionally, or--and this is the important bit--they'll take worse risks on their own. If we do away with challenging playgrounds and cancel school trips for fear of being sued, we don't end up with safer boys--we end up with them walking on train tracks. In the long run, it's not safe at all to keep our boys in the house with a Playstation. It's not good for their health or their safety.

You only have to push a boy on a swing to see how much enjoys the thrill of danger. It's hard-wired. Remove any opportunity to test his courage and they'll find ways to test themselves that will be seriously dangerous for everyone around them. I think of it like playing the lottery--someone has to say "Look, you won't win--and your children won't be hurt. Relax. It won't be you."

I think that's the core of the book's success. It isn't just a collection of things to do. The heroic stories alone are something we haven't had for too long. It isn't about climbing Everest, but it is an attitude, a philosophy for fathers and sons. Our institutions are too wrapped up in terror over being sued--so we have to do things with them ourselves. This book isn't a bad place to start.

As for knockoff books--great. They'll give my son something to read that doesn't involve him learning a dull moral lesson of some kind--just enjoying an adventure or learning skills and crafts so that he has a feeling of competence and confidence--just as we have.

Amazon.com: You made some changes for the U.S. edition, and I for one am sorry that you have removed the section on conkers, if only because it's such a lovely and mysterious word. What are (or what is) conkers?

Iggulden: Horse chestnuts strung on a shoelace and knocked against one another until they shatter. In the entire history of the world, no one has ever been hurt by a conker, but it's still been banned by some British schools, just in case. Another school banned paper airplanes. Honestly, it's enough to make you weep, if I did that sort of thing, which I try not to. Reading Jane Austen is still allowed, however.

Amazon.com: What knowledge did you decide was important to add for American boys? I notice in both editions you have an excellent and useful section on table football, as played with coins. Is paper football strictly an American pastime? I'm not sure I could have gotten through the fourth grade without it.

Iggulden: I like knowing the details of battles, so Gettysburg and the Alamo had to go in, along with the Gettysburg address, stickball, state capitals, U.S. mountains, American trees, insects, U.S. historical timelines, and a lot of others. Navajo code talkers of WWII is a great chapter. It probably helps that I am a huge fan of America. It was only while rewriting for the U.S. that I realized how many positive references there already are. You have NASA and NASA trumps almost anything.

As for paper football, ever since I thought of putting the book together, people keep saying things like "You have rockets in there, yes? Everyone loves rockets!" Paper football is the first American one, but there will be many others. No book in the world is long enough to put them all in--unless we do a sequel, of course.

Amazon.com: Do you think The Dangerous Book for Boys is being read by actual boys, or only by nostalgic adults? Have you seen boys getting up from their Xboxes to go outside and perform first aid or tan animal skins or build go-carts?

Iggulden: I've had a lot of emails and letters from boys who loved the book--as well as fathers. I've had responses from kids as young as ten and an old man of 87, who pointed out a problem with the shadow stick that we've since changed. The thing to remember is that we may be older and more cynical every year, but boys simply aren't. If they are given the chance to make a
go-cart with their dad, they jump at it. Mine did. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to know the book is being used with fathers and sons together, trying things out. Nothing is more valuable to a boy than time with his dad, learning something fun--or something difficult. That's part of the attitude too. If it's hard, you don't make it easy, you grab it by the throat and hang on for as long as it takes.

I'm so glad that some of Hollywood's heavy hitters have supported Jennifer Love Hewitt and her stance with the photos taken of her in her swimsuit. I'm sure it won't make much of a difference to the paparazzi, but hopefully, just hopefully, young girls and women out there will realize that actresses and people in the public eye are normal every day people, who live, breathe, vacation and live like normal people. And, too, that they deserve privacy, dignity and to be able to be their own person, not just the person up on the screen.

Actresses Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Grind house, Rent ); Kate Walsh (Grey's Anatomy Season), and Anne Hathaway (The Princess Diaries, The Devil Wears Prada, Becoming Jane ) have pledged their support to Jennifer Love Hewitt after she hit out at the media for criticizing bikini photographs showing her in an unflattering light. Hewitt was snapped in her black two-piece swimsuit last month as she enjoyed a swim -- but the "Ghost Whisperer " star's photo soon became a subject of discussion on many celebrity blogs.

Hewitt responded with a posted a message on her own Web site saying she is content with her figure, but is unhappy that comments on her weight will put young girls under more pressure to diet. Actress and "Sin City," star Rosario Dawson couldn't agree more, telling People.com, "They'll make a whole story about it if someone gains five pounds. I think there is a huge obsession with size-zero jeans, and it's just really scary. It makes me really nervous, because I don't know how in the world we're supposed to be that thin unless we're totally starving and drugging up."

Any fuzz above your brows creates an unflattering shadow, says New York City makeup artist Vivian Hidalgo of Minardi Salon. To pluck any strays above brows, Hidalgo suggests you look directly into a large mirror (do not tilt your chin up or down -- this distorts your view). And starting at the inner corner, tweeze one hair at a time. To prevent over tweezing, after you've plucked one row, step back from the mirror to check your progress.

Clear up a zit overnight with a dab of toothpaste.
Models started sharing this so-called beauty secret, but the truth is, while the toothpaste does dry the blemish somewhat, it doesn't go far enough, according to NYC dermatologist Diane Berson, M.D. You'll get faster results with an over-the-counter acne treatment containing five percent benzoyl peroxide. Or try Neutrogena's On-the-Spot Acne Patch. (P.S. This absolutely works... I do it all the time!)

You absolutely need a lip liner.
Not always. Neutral lip colors are more forgiving and less likely to show imprecise application. Typically, only dark or bright shades (like red) really need a liner, but makeup pro Kat James has an easier method that produces more natural-looking results: Smooth on lip balm, then apply lipstick to center of lips only. Next, spread the color toward the edges of lips with a lip brush; the lip balm helps dilute the color to create a softer stain, rather than the hard-edged look you'd get with lipstick and liner.

Put on concealer first, then foundation.
Makeup maven Laura Mercier likes to apply foundation first to even out skin tone and provide a base for concealer to cling to. As a result, you use less of your concealer, which makes for a more natural look.

Rinse your hair with cold water to make it shine.
The theory is that a final rinse with cold water after your shampoo seals the cuticle, helping it to reflect more light. But according to hair and scalp expert Philip Kingsley, author of Hair, An Owner's Handbook (Aurum Press, 1995), lowering the water temperature won't enhance shine. In fact, cold water constricts the blood vessels of the scalp, temporarily cutting off the supply of nutrients needed for healthy hair. What helps give hair a pretty sheen? Rinsing thoroughly so that no dulling shampoo residue remains on your hair.

Foundation should match the skin tone of your face.
The surprising answer, according to Kat James, is that your foundation will look more natural if it matches your neck -- specifically, the area near the collarbone. The skin here has a touch more yellow to its undertone, while the face tends to be a little more pink or red. And the last thing you want is a foundation with pink -- it's aging and looks artificial.

Rub your wrists together after applying fragrance.
Some fragrance experts feel that rubbing crushes delicate fragrance molecules, and, as a result, you don't get the true scent. But Annette Green, president of The Fragrance Foundation, disagrees -- unless you have oily skin. "Natural oils mixing with the fragrance before it dries might interfere with the scent," says Green. I admit it, I'm a Regis Philbin fan and I watched his show last week with Jessical Seinfeld. If you didn't see it, she made brownies using vegetables -- hidden, you know, you don't tell anyone there are vegetables in the dessert. I wanted it. I kid you not . . . I went to Border's Cafe yesterday to purchase the new Jessica Senfeld Book

Me, I decided to get a caramel mocha latte and planning on buying the book after my little snack (now you know why I need the book). It wasn't even 15 minutes when I went back to the table and they were sold out! This on a Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. So there must be something to the book ... I borrowed the friends and am going to buy one off Amazon. I have to say the recipes look great!
